How does a successful women-owned and operated engineering and energy consulting firm specializing in water, wastewater, and industrial processes celebrate Engineers Week? By allowing Empowering Pumps to highlight their most talented engineering professionals! We had the great honor of talking with several members of the JKMuir team, including Alexandra Rozen, a Project Engineer who has been with the team since July 2017. Here is what she had to share:
Q. How did you decide to become an engineer? What inspired you?
Alexandra: My dad is a chemistry teacher and had always helped my sister and me to conduct experiments when we were kids, which is what sparked my interest in science. It was always my favorite subject in school and something I looked forward to every day. When I learned about engineering and how I could put my love for science to work to solve problems and make a difference in the world, there was no question for me that I was meant to be an engineer.
Q. What do you love most about being an engineer?
Alexandra: I love the way engineering has shaped my mind. In all aspects of my life, I strive to think critically, practically, stay versatile with my opinions and open with my perspectives. I don’t shy away from problems or difficult situations, and I attribute much of this to the way my thought process has been trained through engineering.
Q. What advice would you give to the next generation of engineers?
Alexandra: Treat everyone you encounter with respect because you will never have all the answers, and there is something to learn from everyone. Always be a team player and willing to listen to the opinions of others because no great engineering feat was ever accomplished alone. And most importantly always take pride in your work and make sure passion is the driving force in whatever you do.
On behalf of the entire Empowering Brands’ team, THANK YOU for your contributions to the Pump Industry! We look forward to keeping in touch with you over the course of your career!
