Meet our Industry Person of the Week, Nushrat Ahmed, Precision Materials Quality and Processes / Next Gen MFG podcast host.
Q: How did you get started working in your field?
Nushrat: My passion is in automotive and motorsports. I attended NASCAR Technical Institute and was looking for a job. I started working in a CNC shop and learned so much in a short time. After graduating I decided to mix my interests of motorsport with my newfound interest of manufacturing. I started work at a valve shop making performance parts for drag cars. After growing and learning there I moved on to processes and quality at a wood manufacturer.
Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?
Nushrat: I love learning!!! I love how much there is to learn and how you can never know everything. I love to make things and to teach and show people that they can do the same. It’s empowering. I’m most proud when people text me telling me that they’re inspired by me – it means I’ve done my part.
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?
Nushrat: ASK QUESTIONS. WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING!!!!! Talk to everyone no matter position – even if they are janitors or operators or CEOs. Treat everyone nicely and respectfully.
Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?
Nushrat: Yes! I’m learning to calculate scrap and production rates for our company and presenting it to higher ups. I’m also learning to communicate with customers about engineering changes or corrective actions.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
Nushrat: I love to yap with anybody!! My podcast is open to men and women of all ages and trades. and hobbies 🙂
