A drilling rig in Texas was experiencing issues on their mud pump drives. The mud pump was driven by two 1000 horsepower motors, each configured with two 4-strand 8V-belts. After investigation, it was determined that the drive was not sized properly using standard V-belts. The standard belts were replaced with Premium V-belts in the same sheaves. The drives did not have to be redesigned and drilling promptly resumed without further issue.
