Our Industry Person of the Week is someone who took her thoughts from scribbled notes on a napkin to an organization that is having a significant impact on the Energy Industry. This extraordinary woman is Katie Mehnert, Founder & CEO of Pink Petro and Experience Energy, author of “Grow with the Flow”, and organizer of the Energy 2.0 “un-conference” (you can watch the live stream online March 17th).
“Having attended the Energy 2.0 event in Houston, I saw first-hand how Katie motivates people – she makes an impact,” states Charli K. Matthews. “She has GRIT and is pushing giants in the energy sector to think and act differently.”
Congratulations, Katie, on the 5th anniversary of your change-making organization. “We all know we’re in a transition,” declared Katie in a blog post titled, Pink Petro and Our Role in the Energy Transition. “Humanity was built by Energy 1.0 with wood, coal, oil and gas. Fossil fuels are the reason we are all here today. But we know that too much of anything can harm us and our climate is changing. The world is on an unsustainable path and this is creating a cultural and business upheaval unlike we’ve ever seen. In what’s been noted as a crisis, I see opportunity. As man and womankind are capable of so much progress, I am convinced we are capable of solving this challenge. We must lower our emissions, transition to newer forms while increasing the demand to bring nations out of poverty. And the industry to lead us should be the industry that started this.”

Having previously worked with Shell and BP prior to starting Pink Petro and Experience Energy, Katie was also a consultant to Fortune 500 companies and small ventures. She has experience with divestments, mergers, startups, bankruptcy, globalization of businesses, health and safety excellence, and is a master in the art of connecting and growing people. Katie and her team have worked since 2014 to help companies attract, retain, and develop talent for the energy transition, with a major focus on supporting gender equality, diversity and inclusion. Five years growing this movement has been no small feat and is worthy of major celebration and acknowledgement.
