Hydraulic Institute & Pump Systems Matter Announce Second Mechanical Seals Webinar Series of 2012

The Hydraulic Institute and Pump Systems Matter, in collaboration with the Fluid Sealing Association, has announced the second Mechanical Seals Webinar Series of 2012.  The series will begin on Wednesday, October 3, 2012. A free supplemental webinar on sealing systems energy efficiency will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012.

Participants will be led by and have access to industry-leading experts in a non-commercial educational forum.  Webinar participants can receive up to four professional development hours.  PDH credits are offered after completion of each live webinar.

The following is a schedule for the upcoming Mechanical Seals Webinar Series:

Section 1: Wednesday, October 3, 1:00-2:00 EDT – Mechanical Seals – Types and Operating Principles
Presenter: Eric Vanhie, EagleBurgmann

Section 1 explains how a mechanical seal works and gives an overview of the most common seal types.  The objectives are to give the student a good understanding of how leakage, friction and wear of the materials interact and why many different seal types are used in pumps, agitators and compressors.

Section 2: Tuesday October 9, 1:00-2:00pm EDT – Mechanical Seals Construction and Design.

Presenter: Mike Huebner, Flowserve

Section 2 will cover different design features used in common seals.  This section will explain the strengths and weaknesses of various design options and impact of design features on seal performance.  Mike will discuss seal faces, springs, seal glands, and much more.

Section 3: Wednesday, October 17, 1:00-2:00pm EDT – Mechanical Seals – Installation, Connections — Commissioning

Presenter: Eric Boyce, John Crane

Section 3 will cover mechanical seals used in rotary equipment, basic preparation and standards as well as support system piping plans promoting longer seal life and more.

Section 4: Wednesday, October 30, 1:00-2:00pm EDT – Mechanical Seals – Seal Environment and Failure Analysis.

Presenter: Henri Azibert, A.W. Chesterton Company

Section 4 covers how to improve material selection, installation and operating procedures, environmental controls, seal design and much more.
