Discovering Inspiration at the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable

Author: Rebekah Mechtensimer

I attended the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable (EGCR) this week! It took place only a few miles from where I live, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check it out and learn more about the Oil & Gas industry.

I learned that the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable had started in 1972 in Morgantown, West Virginia, to develop an education solution for the local gas industry. Since its formation, the ECCR has continued to be a valuable resource for companies and their employees.

Walking through the conference center, it was the most intimate show I’ve been to thus far. I enjoyed getting to go around and speak with the different exhibitors and attendees, but what I enjoyed the most about the event was the keynote speaker, Cliff Baker, Senior Vice President Midstream Field Operations at EQT Corp. EQT is the top natural gas producer in the United States – that in and of itself is very impressive!

It’s what he spoke on “What got us here…WILL get us there” that resonated with me. He spoke about how the U.S. never ‘had a seat at the energy table’ before now, and the impact we are having in the worlds’ energy demand/system. That what we do today effects not only our industry, but our seat at that energy table. He spoke about the many challenges we have right now with regulations. This is the cherry on top for me…he said that we have to figure out the solutions. That we can’t just shut the door and ignore it all, we must work together and figure out how to solve the problems and how to get better as companies and communities. We need to fit into the community to improve and maintain the life of the communities that we (energy companies) move into. Lastly, he spoke about our responsibility to make sure organizations like EGCR last and grow.

It was great to participate in EGCR, and I encourage you to get involved with EGCR https://www.egcr.org/volunteer-for-the-egcr/
