Pump Person of the Week – Tony Whitfield

In 2017, Empowering Pumps & Equipment began inviting people working in the Pump Industry to Nominate a Pump Professional, giving our #PumpTalk Community a chance to shine a light on the PEOPLE behind the Pumps.

Today’s Pump Person of the Week is Tony Whitfield, who hails from Malaga in Western Australia. Here’s what he had to share!

I am stoked that I was nominated to be a Pump Person of the Week! I came from building trade to industrial maintenance about 4 years ago. I had decided that I needed a change of work, so I applied for a position with Specialised Industrial Maintenance. I am now a full-time, ‘leading hand’ in our N.S.W Australia department. We are currently performing shutdown work for a steel company in Port Kembla, repairing the pitted areas of water pipes by coating them with Enecon CBX and wrapping pipes with carbon fibre. We have also abrasive-blasted a couple impellers and coated them in Enecon CeramAlloy C/L. I love rebuilding badly damaged pumps and pipes, bringing them back to new condition. I take pride in doing a good job, and I love seeing the industrial side of manufacturing. I work in many unique places that create a challenge for completing the work successfully. My advice to anyone wishing to start in this line of work is: expect good jobs and bad jobs and pay attention to the details! Always check over your work. Take your time and make sure your preparation is perfect! Your jobs become easier over time, but prep work is key to a lasting job.

On behalf of the entire team at Empowering Pumps & Equipment, Thank you for being our Pump Person of the Week! We look forward to keeping up with you as you continue advancing in your career in the Pump Industry! We know you will do great things!!

Know an Amazing Person who is making valuable contributions within the Pump Industry? Nominate them to be “Pump Person of the Week”!
