Great Company Culture Helps Build Innovative Pumps and Systems

Company Culture.  I have learned a lot about what “Company Culture” means in the past year.  Back in February I attended a sales training workshop where I was introduced to this term.  The speaker was Jack Daly, Master Sales Trainer and one of my favorites. Not only because he Photo of Charli K. I was discussing this last week at WEFTEC and learned that each time you hire a new employee you must go through the development phase of company culture all over again…  This is because the team must get to know the new employee and the employee will need time to adapt to the culture.  This is why turnover is so destructive for a company.  If company culture is ignored or untaught, you will see problems creep in as each new employee is hired.

To further explain the benefits of a good company culture, I would like to tell you about my recent trip to see CheckPoint Pumps & Systems.  I was so impressed with their company culture!  It is clear they focus on the needs of their customers and the highest product quality.

My meeting started with a great surprise! I walked into the lobby and saw this welcome message.   What a nice greeting!

After a long drive, it was so nice that they offered to take me for an amazing lunch at ACME Oyster House! Chargrilled Oysters… my favorite! It gave us time to get to know one another, tell a couple jokes, and discuss a little business.

When we returned to the facility, I received a tour of the facility.  Again, I was very impressed with the personalities of the workers and their enjoyment of their jobs.  This is a huge factor in employee retention… I thought, “I love when people like their jobs!”

We began the tour with a basic overview of the process and then Don Matherne, Engineering Director, with 10 years experience, was called in to give me more details about each product and station.  Below is a photo of several of the products we discussed.A collection for CheckPoint Pumps

One of the neatest things I learned was that Don had improved their pump testing center.  I thought this screamed great company culture.  There was a need and the employee was allowed to work to make a better product or in this case a product tester.
