CFturbo, Inc., a company specializing in turbomachinery design software and consulting, just announced the new release of their upgraded software, CFturbo 2021.R2. With this latest software release, the company has added new modules to their proprietary software that grants users the freedom to create and push the limits of the conceptual design of pumps, blowers, fans, compressors, and turbines. Unlike any other turbomachinery design software on the market, CFturbo can be uniquely combined with different CAE-codes of third-party vendors like ANSYS, NUMECA, SIEMENS PLM, and SIMERICS, or open-source simulation software.

The new release features new modules as well as enhancements to existing components. One new module is the Francis turbine, which is made for creating radial/mixed-flow hydro turbines, including complete 3D modeling and multiple interfaces to CAD and CFD. In addition, a new export structure for neutral 3D formats has been added. This new system allows the export of finished solids and the selection of the domain type, so that batch runs in the context of DoE or optimization are also possible with these interfaces. New export interfaces included with this software update are Ansys Design Modeler, OMNIS/Hexpress, GridPro, and ZW3D. An additional NPSHr prediction method is to use the diagram of Lobanoff and Ross, which supports the design of specific pump impeller types. Finally, structural and modal analysis can be done with the new “CFturbo FEA”. This complimentary software add-on enables CFturbo users to compute the structural integrity and to do modal analyses of bladed components designed in CFturbo.
