The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) is pleased to announce the Keynote Session at the 2019 SME Annual Conference & Expo will be held Monday, February 25 at the Colorado Convention Center. Gender + Generations, presented by generational expert Hannah Ubl, examines the unique differences between men and women of each generation, and provides solutions for improved communication, collaboration and engagement. As each generation and gender brings their own distinct mindsets and experiences, it is increasingly important that companies are able to highlight and harness the strengths every person brings to the table.
“To move forward successfully, companies will have to effectively navigate the generation gap and welcome the diversity of increased numbers of women in the workplace,” said Dave Kanagy, SME Executive Director. “Our keynote session addresses a topic timely to the growth of the mining industry workforce.”
Mikael Lindholm, Chief Digital Officer, FLSmidth, will speak on digitalization and how the different generations can work together to create opportunities and deliver sustainable productivity. The first recipient of the Robert Murray Innovation Award, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), will provide a guest lecture Innovating for Miner Health and Safety, presented by Jessica Elzea Kogel, Associate Director for Mining, NIOSH.
Hannah Ubl is a researcher, speaker, generational expert, and coauthor of “Managing Millennials For Dummies.” She studies what motivates, forms, and challenges every generation. Ms. Ubl has delivered her dynamic presentations in companies such as Cisco Systems, Adidas, Ralph Lauren, UnitedHealth Group, and Deloitte. In her presentation, Hanna notes that women are entering the workforce in record numbers and are bringing a new style of communication, management and leadership.
Additionally, four generations are working together shoulder to shoulder, each with a unique set of attitudes, values and work styles. Gender + Generations will explore the tools needed to convert these forms of diversity from obstacles into opportunities.
The 2019 SME Annual Conference & Expo features more than 700 speakers from over 25 countries recognized as experts in coal and energy, industrial minerals and aggregates, geology, mining, metallurgy, environmental practices, and health and safety for the mining and mineral industries.
