Tatweer Petroleum (a joint venture between the Bahrain National Oil & Gas Company, Occidental Petroleum Corporation and Mubadala Development Company) sought to increase oil production at their remote wells in Bahrain by engaging in water flood, an advanced oil recovery operation. Though cutting–edge in nature, the method was not without potential difficulties, including variable permeability and early water breakthrough, possibly hindering water transport and oil production and processing.
Tatweer Petroleum needed varying injection tank systems that guaranteed optimal processing, and asked CheckPoint Pumps & Systems to supply these six system solutions at the Bahrain location. Two of the units, a scale inhibitor and sulfide dissolver, were set up at the production manifold.
From the CheckPoint system, the mix went through several separation phases at a tank battery wherein two more CheckPoint systems injected alternate biocides. The remaining two systems injected corrosion inhibitor and oxygen scavenger into the outgoing water, which was then re–injected at the remote wells and the process.
Multiple positive results, using CheckPoint’s Pump Solutions , emerged from the Bahrain water flood project. In addition to bypassing porousness and water breakthrough, CheckPoint’s solution achieved the successful goal of increased oil production while simultaneously producing a green byproduct – recyclable water. Occidental Petroleum Corporation will deliver this process to other locations worldwide.
