We are excited to announce that our very own Lindsay Schubel, Ceramic Quality Engineer III, and Kara Chmielewski, Director of Sales & Service, Midwest, have been named winners of the Manufacturing Institute’s 2019 Step Ahead Awards.

The National Association of Manufacturers’ Manufacturing Institute is based in the U.S. and aims to promote the importance of a diverse workforce across America. To combat the gender gap in manufacturing, The Manufacturing Institute launched the STEP Ahead initiative in 2012 to showcase the impact of women in science, technology, engineering and production (STEP) careers.

As part of the broader STEP Ahead initiative, the STEP Ahead Awards examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry through recognition, research, and leadership for attracting, advancing and retaining strong female talent.

The program recognizes women at all levels, from the factory floor to the C-suite, and is an opportunity to bolster the recognition of women within the manufacturing and engineering industries, showcase female talent, increase the interest in STEM-related careers among younger generations and provide role models who can speak to the transformation of the industry.

John CraneFourteen women from John Crane were nominated for the 2019 Step Ahead Awards. Out of the 14 nominees, Lindsay Schubel and Kara Chmielewski were chosen as winners.

Kara and Lindsay were formally recognized at the Step Ahead Awards gala in Washington, D.C., on April 11.
