John Crane Commemorates 100-Year Anniversary with Interactive Digital Timeline and Documentary Video

John Crane, a global leader in rotating equipment solutions, today released an interactive digital timeline and documentary-style video to commemorate the company’s 100-year anniversary. The year-long celebration that began in March 2017, and concluded this month, included employee-driven events at the company’s 200 global sites.

Using a combination of historic and modern day photos, graphics, and anecdotes, the digital timeline chronicles the company’s story that began in 1917 with packing and gasketing products patented by engineer and co-founder John Crane.

“John Crane has seen tremendous growth over the past 100 years,” said John Crane CEO and Division President Jean Vernet. “In honor of our centennial celebration, our employees participated in activities that gave them the opportunity to look back at the achievements that brought us to where we are today. When I think about our history, it’s clear that our people are the reason for our century of success. As we think ahead to our future, we remain focused on developing innovative solutions that solve some of our customers’ greatest challenges and embracing disruptive technologies that have the potential to transform our industry.”

The documentary-style video features employees talking about the company’s heritage that creates a culture of pride and promotes teamwork, and the entrepreneurial spirit that fosters customer-focused innovation and technology. In addition, former long-time employee and CEO Harry Tankus, and current CEO Jean Vernet share insights about John Crane’s culture, history, key milestones and achievements that separate the company from its competitors.

Over the years the company has developed dozens of revolutionary products and processes, including the first automotive mechanical seal; the end-face, elastomer bellows shaft seal; seals for high-pressure and corrosive applications; and non-contacting technology for pumps handling environmentally hazardous liquids. By pioneering the development of gas seals in the late 1960s and into the 1970s, John Crane revolutionized the performance of modern day centrifugal compressors.

Today the company is the market leader in mechanical seals for pumps and compressors, and a trusted source for optimizing the reliable and continuous performance of mission-critical rotating equipment across all process industries.
