Flygt technologies maximize pump station efficiency on display at WEFTEC

Xylem Inc. (NYSE: XYL), a leading global water technology company focused on addressing the world’s most challenging water issues, today unveiled two new additions to its Flygt product portfolio which reduces investment and maintenance costs, while maximizing a pump stations’ performance and efficiency. Xylem’s new Flygt Slimline Propeller Pump line was launched globally at WEFTEC 2012 in New Orleans (Hall H, booth #6239) while the Flygt APP 800 pump controller is now available to customers in North America having been launched in Europe earlier this year.

The Flygt Slimline Propeller Pumps use smaller discharge column sizes resulting in a more compact pump station footprint which in turn minimizes civil construction costs. The state-of-the-art axial flow pumps deliver unrivalled reliability and efficiency with increased clog resistance thanks to Flygt’s unique N-technology. A self-cleaning propeller minimizes operational disturbances while delivering sustained high efficiency and reduced energy costs compared to conventional propeller pumps.

Commenting, Bob Domkowski, product manager with Xylem said, “The cost of moving water has major implications for a facility’s operation outlay. Xylem’s new propeller pumps are fit to transport large volumes of water at low heads while delivering a strong performance. Whether required for continuous or intermittent duty, clean or contaminated water, we at Xylem will help our customers with all the dynamics to move volumes, effectively and reliably.”

Unlike general purpose programmable logic control (PLC) systems, Xylem’s new Flygt APP 800 pump control system has been specifically engineered to control water and wastewater transport systems, providing customers with a better understanding of the actual cost of their pumping operations by showing real-time liquid volumes and energy consumption.

Features of the Flygt APP 800 include enhanced flexibility with state-of-the-art pump modules, improved connectivity, a colour touch screen, an easy to use intuitive graphical interface as well as full telemetry and alarm handling distribution. The system also offers data logging and data storage, recording data, time and details on up to 1,000 events. The Flygt APP 800 is modular and scalable, allowing flexibility to tailor for future expansions with just a few pushes of a button on a user-friendly touch screen. User configurable hydraulic algorithms allow operators to change the way the system runs based on long-term needs.

Mr. Domkowski continued, “Both of these additions to Xylem’s Flygt portfolio respond to customers’ needs for products that are both cost and energy efficient without compromising on performance. They are also very simple to install and operate. For example, the Flygt APP800 is pre-engineered and pre-packaged for instant use and can be connected to a SCADA system for seamless integration with very little engineering, particularly if it’s a Flygt SCADA system. We are leveraging our 100 years plus of accumulated expertise in the water and wastewater pump business including our large installed base of more than 100,000 previous-generation pump controllers, to deliver the best of innovative solutions for end-users in the U.S. and beyond.”
