Shannon is an electrical apprentice by trade. She began working in the field in 2019 after completing her pre-apprenticeship and co-op at Arcelor Mittal Dofasco. “I genuinely love my job, and being an Electrical Apprentice keeps my physically, and mentally healthy, all while helping me stay financially secure. I feel challenged, engaged, and proud of the work I do.” says Shannon.

Financial independence is important to Shannon, along with teaching others about the trades. She has a strong passion for her career an is an advocate for the skilled trades. Going forward, Shannon would like to see mental health in the trades evolve, more women in the industry, and to empower the youth to join the trades.

Her advice for anyone wanting to enter the electrical field is to “be persistent and attempt getting hands-on experience you can add to a resume. Additionally, to women who may be interested search out programs in your area that help support women transition into a trade.”
