American Water Works Association cancels two conferences to protect public health

To protect public health during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) today announced the cancellation of its Water Infrastructure Conference (WIC), Nov. 2-5 in Philadelphia, Pa., and its Water Quality Technology Conference (WQTC), Nov. 15-19 in Schaumburg, Ill.

Details related to these cancellations are available on AWWA’s Events and Education website.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision from many perspectives,” said AWWA CEO David LaFrance. “We are grateful to the AWWA leaders, section volunteers, and others who gave of their time to envision and organize what would surely have been two first-rate events. We are also thankful to the would-be sponsors and exhibitors at these events. They do a tremendous service to the water sector.

“I want to assure you that AWWA remains committed to creating new and innovative ways for water professionals to share the kind of critical knowledge found at WQTC and WIC. We have already seen tremendous interest in the AWWA Virtual Summit, Sept. 23-24, and we will be finding many more opportunities to assure a vibrant exchange of information among members.”

AWWA is offering resources to assist utilities in dealing with the challenges that arise during the COVID-19 pandemic at awwa.org/coronavirus.

Established in 1881, the American Water Works Association is the largest nonprofit, scientific and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water, the world’s most important resource. With approximately 51,000 members, AWWA provides solutions to improve public health, protect the environment, strengthen the economy, and enhance our quality of life.
