When Manufacturers Collaborate, Customers Benefit

How one Manufacturing Company Partnered with WEG Packaged Solutions to Better Serve their Customers

When you can provide assurance to your customers that they will meet EPA requirements throughout the duration of a project, that they can employ a solution that is both safe and easy to use, you make decisions to deliver on that promise. This is one such case where a manufacturer of industrial vacuum systems partnered with WEG Packaged Solutions to better serve their customers.

This manufacturer produces large, portable industrial dust collectors that are typically used at fracking job sites and locations where bridges are sand-blasted, repaired, and refinished. Wherever there is an application for industrial refinishing or other specialized dust collection, this manufacturer supplies high-powered vacuum units to keep potentially hazardous particles from being released into the air, protecting people and the environment.

In 2017, this manufacturer partnered with WEG Packaged Solutions to upgrade their portable units. The engineers at WEG Packaged Solutions worked with the manufacturer to perform an analysis of the machinery they manufacture at each of their locations so they could then determine the best motors, drives, and controls to install into their various units. Each unit had their own space constraints, but the WEG engineers were able to meet the manufacturer’s needs by supplying five different sizes – 20-, 40-, 60-, 150-, and 200-horsepower NEMA Premium TEFC motors from WEG, with UL-certified panels, and the WEG SSW07 NEMA 4 Soft Starter package.

The soft starters allow their customers to do a voltage ramp and get the equipment running without tripping the feed. The majority of these units are rented, so the manufacturer does not always know what else is on their customer’s electrical line. The end user might have 5 other high-powered machines, so having this soft starter simply eliminates potential feed tripping issues. Installing the soft starters into the units will also reduce the mechanical wear on the equipment, allowing the manufacturer to keep their units in their rental fleet for much longer periods of time.

The decision was made to remove the keypad from the outside of the soft starter control panel, which makes it easier for the manufacturer to maintain their rental fleet. Now that they can ‘set it and forget it’, there is no need for any of their customers to change operating parameters on their unit. Their customers can start the industrial vacuums up easily, run them, and not have to adjust anything.

WEG Packaged Solutions continues to support this manufacturer, providing complete drawing packages and using a smart part numbering order system to streamline the manufacturer’s processes in multiple production facilities. The WEG Team is committed to providing quality, configured-to-order packaged solutions that exceed our customers’ expectations – offering reliability and safety by design.
