Since 2011, the Water Environment Federation has annually recognized 15 members as WEF Fellows, one of WEF’s highest professional honors. A growing cohort of 225, these water professionals represent leadership excellence in the sector, professionals who strengthen communities, contribute to technical expertise in the field, and who actively shape a more sustainable future for our global water environment. Their work ensures safe water, resilient utilities, and healthier environments for people around the world.

“I am so incredibly honored to be recognized as a WEF Fellow. Over the last decade, I have watched as friends and colleagues in the water sector have received this significant distinction. I am humbled to join their ranks. A special thank you to the WEF Staff, Awards and Recognition Focus Group, and those who provided the nomination documents. I look forward to many more years of protecting public health and the environment and working toward WEF’s Vision of A Life Free of Water Challenges.”

WEF Fellow Shellie Chard, Oklahoma Water Environment Association

“WEF Fellows are recognized leaders in the water workforce who have positively impacted people and the planet through their work. They inspire all of us to work together for a more sustainable water future.”

Ralph Exton, WEF Executive Director and WEF Fellow

If someone you know has dedicated their career to advancing innovation, improving water quality, uplifting others in the profession, or safeguarding resources for future generations, now is the time to honor their contributions.

Ideal WEF Fellows nominees are established professionals with over twenty years of professional experience whose achievements have improved water sector outcomes through leadership, innovation, and community advancement. They have a strong history of involvement with WEF and Member Associations and a demonstrated commitment to protecting the environment and public health. Both peer nominations and self-nominations are encouraged.

In 2026, WEF will recognize excellence across 25 categories at the Blue Carpet Awards and Presidential Celebration Ceremony during WEFTEC in New Orleans. Nominations open January 15, 2026. Give someone you admire the chance to be celebrated on this stage.
