Why BESS? Community and Industrial Battery Storage Back-Up

By: TECO

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are gaining popularity. With capabilities to support on and off-grid sites, the primary purpose of an installed BESS is to store more energy, improve energy efficiency and provide direct access to on-site energy. BESS applications are used at oil and gas sites, as well as diversification of utilities. Coupled with renewable energy such as Wind and Solar, BESS, compliments the overall “green” carbon reduction objectives for businesses and communities. Why is BESS the big topic right now?

  • Tool for Profit: Depending upon available utility incentives, overproduction of energy for businesses and communities provide the ability to sell back additional power to the grid. This helps diversify energy generation, and provides income stream for BESS owner.
  • Used at On-grid and Off-grid Sites: Power outages appear to be a thing of the present. Just ask residents in Texas, Louisiana, New York, California (among others). Harsh weathering and remote areas call for on-site storage to run operations and support communities with back-up storage in times of emergency.
  • Coupling Capabilities: BESS can be used in conjunction with traditional oil and gas sites and utilities, as well as newer renewable energy technologies such as Wind, Hydro-electric and Solar. In locations with high levels power output, BESS a type of retrofit solution for immediate power accessibility.
