Strength in Scale and Expertise: Inside EBARA’s Acquisition of The Hayward Gordon Group

By: EBARA

The integration delivers an expanded product portfolio, enhanced engineering collaboration, and improved service for global customers.

When EBARA Corporation acquired the Hayward Gordon Group in late 2022, the news traveled quickly across the global pump industry.

EBARA—headquartered in Tokyo, publicly traded, and operating more than 80 subsidiaries worldwide—has long been recognized as a century-old Japanese powerhouse with deep roots in global manufacturing. The multinational company was founded in 1912 and is a global leader in pumps, turbines, fans, blowers, environmental solutions, and semiconductor equipment.

The Hayward Gordon Group was comprised of three respected brands: Hayward Gordon, Sharpe Mixers, and Scott Mixers. For more than 70 years, the company has designed and delivered high-quality, heavy-duty pumps, mixers, and mixing systems to some of the world’s most demanding industries, including water, wastewater, mining, industrial, and food & beverage.

The positive and powerful integration of these two strong companies formed Canadian-based EBARA HG ULC, a fully integrated subsidiary of the EBARA Corporation that promises to redefine the landscape of pumping and mixing technology. It operates alongside EBARA Mixers Inc., based in the United States (formerly Scott Turbon Mixer Inc.).

With the acquisition, EBARA strengthened its pump and mixer offerings and provided EBARA HG and EBARA Mixers customers and distributors with expanded reach, resources, and a broader product portfolio.

For EBARA HG and EBARA Mixers customers, partners, and vendors, the acquisition signals more than a name change. It represents the convergence of global scale with local expertise, catalog breadth with engineered precision, and long-standing customer relationships backed by worldwide resources.

As EBARA HG’s Brahim Arnaout (COO) and Serge Crainic (Canadian Sales Manager) explain, the move was never just about corporate consolidation. It is about combining complementary strengths to solve complex challenges and deliver greater long-term value for customers around the world.

The acquisition was finalized in November 2022, with full Canadian operations consolidated under the new EBARA HG ULC company and US operations under the new EBARA Mixers Inc. company in June 2024. For Arnaout, who has worked with the EBARA Corporation for three decades, this step represents both continuity and transformation.

“EBARA is a believer in the long-term strategy,” Arnaout explained. “We focus on technology, know-how, experience, and most importantly, a mindset to grow and develop. By integrating the Hayward Gordon Groups’ custom solutions into EBARA’s global manufacturing network, we can offer a much wider range of products and expand into new markets.”

Crainic, who has spent more than 21 years with Hayward Gordon, reflected on the transition.
“Working alongside EBARA has given us the opportunity to combine the best of both worlds — Hayward Gordon Group’s application expertise and customer focus with EBARA’s strong corporate philosophy and global resources. It’s a cultural collaboration that is already strengthening our team and creating new opportunities,” Crainic said.

“EBARA is the largest pump company in the world, with more than 20,000 employees. Now, we have a much bigger team and the chance to bring Hayward Gordon Group’s expertise to global markets while delivering greater value to our customers than either company could do alone.”

For customers, one of the most immediate advantages of the EBARA–Hayward Gordon Group integration is access to a unified lineup of trusted legacy brands alongside EBARA’s broad catalog offerings.

Under the EBARA HG umbrella, Hayward Gordon pumps and mixers, and Sharpe Mixers continue as reliable engineered brands, while EBARA Mixers Inc. operates U.S.-based Scott Mixers and Sharpe Mixers brands. In Canada, EBARA HG now distributes EBARA pumps directly, with EBARA Pumps Americas Corporation (EPAC) supporting customers with the EBARA catalog products in the U.S. market.

This unified structure gives customers the best of both worlds: engineered, application-specific solutions and proven off-the-shelf products—delivered through one trusted provider.

“Traditionally, Hayward Gordon’s mixers and solids-handling pumps have been custom-engineered, while EBARA’s portfolio provides dependable off-the-shelf options,” Crainic explained. “Now, customers benefit from a broader selection and faster delivery, whether their project requires a tailored solution or a catalog pump.”

With this combined strength, EBARA HG and EBARA Mixers can serve a wider array of global industries—including water, wastewater, mining, industrial, chemical, food, and beverage—with proven, application-focused technologies.

On the pump side, offerings range from rugged solids-handling designs such as the ChopX chopper pump and Torus grit pump, to low-shear solutions like the XCS screw centrifugal pump, and precision peristaltic and metering pumps for challenging fluids.

On the mixing side, customers can choose from portable mixers to mixing systems for batch operations, top-entry and gear-driven mixers for heavy-duty environments, and specialized technologies such as HydroMix®, which eliminates in-tank moving parts for faster, more efficient blending with reduced maintenance.

Together, these capabilities position EBARA HG/EBARA Mixers as a one-stop provider for both every day and highly demanding process challenges. Whether supporting a municipal wastewater facility, a chemical processor, or a global mining operation, customers can now look to a single partner for both engineered solutions and catalog equipment—backed by deep expertise and worldwide resources.

“Hayward Gordon has a strong line of mixers for the global mining business,” Arnaout said. “By adding those to EBARA’s product mix, we can now offer a much wider range of products internationally.”

One of the most immediate benefits of the acquisition has been the enhancement of engineering resources. By combining EBARA’s global R&D investment with Hayward Gordon Group’s application know-how, EBARA HG and EBARA Mixers are driving new innovations and strengthening its technical capabilities.

“We’ve already seen success with EBARA’s engineering resources,” Crainic said. “For example, we’re collaborating on new initiatives that accelerate product development, make us more competitive, and create greater value for our customers. We’re excited to continue this innovation moving forward, including a product launch planned for 2026.”

EBARA’s long-standing philosophy of deliberate, technology-driven growth complements Hayward Gordon Group’s customer-focused innovation. “We are really into advanced technology, always thinking about what the next great product will be, five or ten years from now,” Arnaout said. “That mindset is a big help to our customers.”

One of the most visible benefits of the acquisition has been EBARA HG’s ability to expand service and support globally while staying close to customers locally.

A recent example comes from Brazil. In early 2023, EBARA HG partnered with EBARA Brazil (EBAS) to supply agitators for a new local gold mine. Drawing on experience from hundreds of gold leach agitator installations worldwide, the team was able to select and deliver equipment that exceeded expectations.
By July 2025, the collaboration had achieved a milestone: the first EBARA-branded side-entry agitator fully designed, manufactured, and delivered in Brazil, using technology from the well-established Sharpe Mixers brand. For customers, this local capability translates into quicker delivery, reduced costs, and the assurance that proven technology is supported by nearby expertise.

EBARA HG is applying the same customer-focused model across other regions. Manufacturing capabilities in Brazil, India, and Turkey now allow the company to lower pricing, streamline delivery, and reduce transportation and ownership costs—while maintaining the same design and quality standards established at the Halton Hills, Ontario headquarters.

Additional resources in Brazil, Australia, and Turkey provide local support for agitator selection and design, ensuring that engineers and plant operators have hands-on guidance when and where they need it.

This global network also makes it possible to scale quickly.

“In Brazil, for example, there is a large mixer market that EBARA could not previously access,” Arnaout explained. “Now, through the acquisition, we’ve already sold our first EBARA mixer locally and are expanding quickly into new markets. If we have a new project in a remote location, we can contact a sister company to support us. We are also sourcing parts locally through the EBARA network to reduce costs and improve competitiveness. That combination of engineering excellence and local sourcing is a big advantage.”

For customers, the message is continuity plus improvement.

“EBARA’s philosophy is to respond to customers’ needs with passion and dedication,” Crainic said. “As part of a larger organization, we can now offer more competitive pricing, higher quality, and reliable on-time delivery. Customers value all three—and today we are better equipped than ever to meet and exceed those expectations.”

EBARA HG and EBARA Mixers have further assured stakeholders that existing contracts remain valid and trusted legacy brands like Hayward Gordon, Sharpe Mixers, and Scott Mixers will continue to be promoted, ensuring consistency in both product and service quality.

Ebara The Skills That Keep Our World Running: How Industry Is Coming Together to Celebrate Water ProfessionalsOvercoming Concerns: Stability and Long-Term Commitment

Acquisitions often spark concerns about stability. Customers wonder if service will be disrupted, if product quality will change, or if the acquisition signals weakness. Arnaout addressed those concerns directly.

“Most customers like to see stability and long-term commitment. EBARA is a strong believer in investment,” he explained. “We emphasize EBARA’s philosophy with customers to reassure them that they are in good hands — supported now and in the future. We are here to stay.”

For Crainic, the message to customers is straightforward:

“In the long run, the Hayward Gordon Group acquisition is a very lucrative and growth-worthy endeavor. Hayward Gordon Group’s distinct product offerings are new to EBARA’s portfolio — something EBARA did not previously possess. EBARA acquired the Hayward Gordon Group because they recognized the strategic value it brings.”

In addition, EBARA HG and EBARA Mixers have added resources in aftermarket service and expanded its footprint globally, ensuring customers benefit from broader support and faster response times.

Looking Ahead: Bigger Projects, Greater Value

The leaders of EBARA HG and EBARA Mixers are optimistic about what comes next.

Crainic envisions the company taking on larger, more complex projects by drawing on the collective knowledge of EBARA’s global sister companies. “I see us solving bigger and bigger challenges for our customers,” he said.

Arnaout echoed this forward-looking view. “We are open-minded to work with customers because we have the capabilities and the team to do it. With deep engineering and manufacturing resources, EBARA is always looking ahead to the next generation of products.”

As part of this transition, EBARA HG and EBARA Mixers have successfully launched a refreshed brand identity, complete with updated logos, a redesigned website, and unified messaging. These changes reflect not just a new look, but a stronger alignment of their global and local strengths — helping customers more easily connect with their trusted brands and expanded solutions.

For EBARA HG/EBARA Mixers, the acquisition is a deliberate alignment of philosophy, capability, and ambition. EBARA brings global reach, financial stability, and vast manufacturing resources. The Hayward Gordon Group contributes decades of application expertise, trusted customer relationships, and a reputation for engineered solutions. Together, the new entity offers an expanded product lineup, deeper engineering collaboration, and enhanced service support.

As Arnaout put it, “It’s an acquisition, not a merger. The Hayward Gordon Group is now a 100% subsidiary of EBARA. It’s fully integrated. We are here to stay, and we will be much bigger and better.”

For customers, the message is equally clear: expect continuity, expect improvement, and expect the combined strength of EBARA HG and EBARA Mixers to deliver long-term value. The pump and mixer industry has entered a new chapter — and EBARA HG/EBARA Mixers is determined to lead it.
