Schneider Electric and Eliwell introduce innovation, value and optimal performance with new Modicon M172 HVAC/R PLCs

Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management and automation, today launched the new Modicon M172 programmable logic controllers. Designed for HVAC/R and pumping applications, these new PLCs are a feature at the Schneider Electric booth (#6116) at the 2018 AHR Expo taking place in Chicago. This launch expands Schneider Electric’s deep portfolio of best-in-class controllers for the HVAC/R, Pumping and Refrigeration markets.

The Modicon M172 HVAC/R PLCs and accessories are ideal for a range of applications, from smaller HVAC/R and pumping systems to large Refrigeration rack systems. The new line includes the Modicon M172 Optimized series – developed to provide optimum performance and control for HVAC/R applications at minimum cost where network communication is not required, and the Modicon M172 Performance series – designed with Native BacNet and Modbus network communications embedded, ideal for modular and distributed architectures. Together, these offers provide Original Equipment Manufacturers benchmark performance with greater flexibility to design and build more efficient machines at a lower cost to increasing profitability.

“The new Modicon M172 HVAC/R controllers and the Eliwell Rack Control Systems are designed for today’s IIoT environment and provide the intuitive features and functions that machine builders need to secure market differentiation and improve their bottom lines,” said Robert Gray, HVAC/R Segment Marketing Manager, Schneider Electric. “From small to very large HVAC/R machines and pumping systems, we are proud to offer a full portfolio of controllers and panel components that maximize value around operational efficiency and reliability for both engineers and their customers.”

At the core of Schneider Electric’s HVAC/R machine solutions is the SoMachine HVAC v3.0 Software. Built on its Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled open and interoperable system architecture, this platform that delivers time-saving innovation with ready-to-use applications and function blocks developed specifically for HVAC/R and pumping machines reducing the cost of engineering.

This feature-rich platform also includes a QR Code Generator and built-in webserver which allow the user to link maintenance pages, electrical drawings and send messages and software upgrades via the Cloud. Enhanced cybersecurity for remote access/connection also provides additional assurance for the user.

Eliwell Grows EWCM PLC Family Taking Enhancing Refrigeration Rack Control for Less The newly launched EWCM family of PLCs from Eliwell takes refrigeration rack control to the highest level, for less cost. The EWCM controllers take up 65% less panel space than current popular controllers while providing optimum control for systems using all standard refrigerants, including CO-2 and Propane. The new Eliwell EWCM series is designed for both small central cooling units with capacity modulation plus two-step or inverter modulation for condensation fans, and larger traditional compressor racks with single and double circuit; inverter and digital scroll compressors modulation; staged or inverter modulated condenser fans. The programming software behind these controllers includes pre-defined applications and self-tuning commissioning and is available for free.

Innovation at Every Level for HVAC/R, Pumping and Refrigeration The Modicon M172 controllers are the latest addition to a broad portfolio of best-in-class products and solutions that deliver enhanced safety, connectivity, flexibility and efficiency. Designed for a connected future, where industrial Ethernet networking technology connects machines and operations from shop floor to top floor, the Modicon M172 illustrates Schneider Electric’s ability to deliver Innovation At Every Level.
