Pump Person of the Week – Dino Margaritis

Empowering Pumps recently began inviting people to Nominate a Pump Professional, and today’s Pump Person of the Week is Dino Margaritis, an industry pro who works to repair pumps and pump components.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job in the pump aftermarket?

“My favorite part of my job is using all the different machines and welding equipment in the pump repair industry. We often make custom tools for different jobs, which is always a challenge, but when I’m looking at the finished product – whether it’s a seal gland, a custom-made shaft, or an impeller that started out as a solid chunk of metal – it’s great to see the job go together smoothly with no problems. I especially feel proud of myself to hear that there are no call backs. The one thing I love most about my job is all the life-long friends I have made along the way. They are from all over the world, working in similar fields or other pump repair shops and machine shops; some are welders and some are suppliers, like Jeremy Donch, Owner/operator of Tri-State Bearing & Supply Co. in Clifton, New Jersey. We are especially grateful to him and his company, which has been there to help in every way they can. Having a reliable network to source quality parts and materials is critical and our success is really due to all the hard work of my bosses, Lou and Gale Valenti, owners and operators of the company I work for.”

Q: What advice would you give to someone starting out in the pump industry?

“The advice I would give to someone starting out in the pump industry would be to ask as many questions as you can. You can never learn enough in this business. I’ve been doing it for 17 years, and I’m still learning new things everyday. Also, have fun! You have to love what you do, or what’s the point?! I love my job and you should too!”

Dino, thanks for sharing such humble and positive thoughts! Thank you for being our Pump Person of the Week!
