Multitec Pump Technology Has Expanded

By: KSB

KSB, the world’s most experienced supplier of pumps, valves, and service, offers one of the most flexible multistage pumps on the market: the Multitec high-pressure pump in ring-section design. From ski resorts making snow to Caribbean enterprises looking to distill seawater/brackish waters, this pump is a great fit for nearly limitless applications. Best of all, the Multitec’s low-maintenance design and long-lasting reliability make it cost effective in any setting.

Unsurpassed versatility
“Multitec is one of the most flexible multistage pumps out there,” says Douglas Pereira, KSB’s Regional Manager of the Energy, Industry & Desalination Division. Its impressive versatility is due in part to the great number of available options for customization:

  • Choose from six material combinations ranging from cast iron to super duplex steel to fit numerous fluid inputs including hot, cold, clean, seawater, or brackish.
  • Install the pump horizontally or vertically.
  • Easy adjustment of the suction and discharge nozzles.
  • Select from seven installation types.

This flexibility allows Multitec pumps to process just about anything imaginable. Users can supply water or drinking water (ACS), heat water, filter water, fight fires, run wash plants, irrigate crops, transport mud, distill seawater, support carwashes, and more. KSB customers also use Multitec pumps in power stations, industry (ATEX), high-rises, boiler systems, and even ski resorts.

Time-tested design
“KSB invented the distinctive ring-section design for multistage pumps,” Pereira says. “KSB first introduced the compact multistage Multitec pump to the market in 1998 and has improved upon its design ever since.”

Now in its third generation, the Multitec’s time-tested technology has advanced, becoming more reliable and user-friendly. “Customers aren’t forced to select between costly trim levels,” Pereira says. “Instead, Multitec pumps cut costs by providing one flexible design to match customers’ needs.”

Users can maximize space with one of seven compact installation types. The special first stage suction impeller adds to the Multitec’s flexibility, providing a low NPSH value while eliminating the need to raise a tank.

Multitec pumps employ a balancing drum to compensate for axial thrust, reducing stress on the pump and extending the pump’s service life. The wear-resistant design has a self-aligning plain bearing made of silicon carbide for long-lasting suction performance on Multitec versions A & B. In addition, the pumps are easy to service with user-friendly bearings for simple dismantling.

Cost effective
All of this, combined with the highly efficient hydraulic system, delivers low operating costs. On its installation version A or B, operating costs are reduced further thanks to only one shaft seal.

The Multitec is a versatile, high-pressure multistage pump with boundless applications, low maintenance, and proven reliability. KSB experts are available to help companies pinpoint the optimum setup to take advantage of its many cost-saving benefits.
