Marshalltown Water Works in Iowa receives two prestigious industry awards

Utility is among select few to receive Directors Awards from Partnership for Safe Water

Marshalltown Water Works (MWW) is among the first utilities to achieve the Directors Award in the Partnership for Safe Water’s Water Treatment and Water Distribution System Optimization Program in the same year. Located in Marshalltown, Iowa, MWW receives these awards for successfully completing a comprehensive self-assessment of both their conventional lime softening treatment process, and their distribution system operations, a significant achievement towards ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality water to the community.  MWW is only the second utility in Iowa to receive the Directors Award for Treatment, and the first in the State to receive the Award for their Distribution System.

The self-assessment process undertaken by MWW included separate evaluations of both the treatment and distribution system operations for their performance; identification of performance limiting factors; and the development of action plans to achieve system optimization, culminating in two peer-reviewed completion reports.  Marshalltown Water Works will be one of a select group of utilities recognized at the annual conference of the American Water Works Association in June for achieving the Directors Award level of performance within both the Partnership’s Treatment andDistribution System Optimization Program during the same year, something that has not been done in the history of the program.

“As a Partnership for Safe Water Treatment and Distribution Program subscriber utility, we are honored to be among the first to receive these awards,” said General Manager/CEO Steve Sincox. “Our utility’s goal is to be a leader in optimization, and to continuously strive to optimize performance and water quality.  Achievement of the Directors Award, not only for our treatment process, but also the distribution system that we use to deliver the water to our customers, demonstrates our ongoing commitment to protecting public health. Quality. Affordable. Reliable. These are the three tenets we strive for and it takes the total package of water treatment and distribution to make it all work.  These awards would not be possible without the vision and dedication of our employees and staff.”

The Partnership for Safe Water is a voluntary self-assessment and optimization program for water treatment plant and distribution system operation nationwide. More than 250 utility subscribers, collectively serving more than 100 million people, are committed to the Partnership’s goals of providing safe, high-quality drinking water through achieving operational excellence. Partnershipmembers participate in a rigorous four-phase self-assessment and peer review process, developed by industry experts, and are recognized broadly for their commitment to delivering safe water to their communities.
