KSB’s Superior Pumping/Mixing Solution for the Blue Mountain Biogas Plant

By: KSB

KSB is a global leader in the design and manufacturing of pumps, valves, mixers, and related systems used wherever there is need for fluid transportation. Application areas include building services; process engineering; water treatment; water transport; energy conversion; and solids transport.  Founded in 1871, KSB has grown to span all continents with more than 16,200 employees.

One of KSB’s most recent projects involved the design and manufacture of a more energy efficient pump and mixing solution for the Blue Mountain Biogas Plant in Milford, UT, owned and operated by Alpental Energy. At Blue Mountain, the manure of 220,000 hogs is converted to methane gas which then generates sufficient electricity to power over 3,000 homes. KSB provided Alpental with 16 submersible pumps and custom engineered mixers that reduced HP usage from 25 to 8 per mixer.  Watch this video to learn more about the process of converting hog manure to “green” electric power and the role that pumps and mixers play in this application.
