At Empowering Pumps & Equipment, our mission has always been to connect with the people and technologies driving the pump and flow industry forward. During our recent Industry Access visit to Taco, Inc., we had the opportunity to tour the facility with Joe Mattiello, who shared how this family-owned company continues to blend innovation, craftsmanship, and a deep commitment to its people. Walking through Taco’s Rhode Island facility, it was clear that the company’s success is rooted in more than advanced engineering; it’s built on a culture of respect and opportunity. From educational programs for employees and their families to an emphasis on safety, wellness, and professional growth, Taco has created an environment where people thrive. “Everybody has an opportunity to grow professionally,” Joe explained.
“We want every employee to go home proud of what they’ve built and who they are. ”That spirit of care extends to every corner of the operation. Taco’s approach to continuous improvement, inspired by Kaizen principles, ensures efficiency and safety without losing the human touch. The pride employees take in their work was evident at every station—from machining and assembly to the advanced robotics that now streamline painting and production. Automation has enhanced productivity while empowering workers to take on new, higher-skilled roles. What stood out most was the sense of belonging among Taco’s long-tenured employees. Many have spent decades with the company, contributing to its growth and evolution. One team member, who has been with Taco for more than 40 years, reflected, “Technology has changed everything, but the heart of the company has stayed the same.” That heart is visible in the teamwork, laughter, and quiet confidence that fill the shop floor.
The company’s innovation journey is also clear in its evolving product lines, from traditional motors and circulators to next-generation ECM technology. Each new design reflects Taco’s dedication to energy efficiency, quality, and long-term reliability. Even as new machines and materials come online, the company remains deeply connected to its legacy of craftsmanship and customer trust. At Empowering Pumps & Equipment, we left inspired by Taco’s culture of care, a model of how technical excellence and human connection can exist side by side. In an industry built on movement, Taco shows that progress starts with people.
