Meet our Industry Person of the Week, Robert (Bubba) Roy, North Louisiana Service Center Supervisor for A.W. Chesterton Company.
Q: How did you get started working in your field?
Robert: I’ve been a machinist since junior year in high school and once I started working for a company that repaired pumps I always thought they were fascinating.
Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?
Robert: I love being challenged at work and with pump repair, you never know what problem you will face next. I’m most proud of the team that Chesterton has provided me with. this team can overcome any problem they are faced with.
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?
Robert: I would tell them to always keep an open mind and surround themselves with people who have the same ”can-do attitude”. Think outside the box when it comes to repairing pumps that have catastrophic failures, doing that will keep your opinions endless.
Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?
Robert: Just recently we were faced with a 60” vertical turbine that only had a 3-week window for completion. in that short time frame, our team was able to upgrade the pump from OEM rubber cutlass bearings to Boulden B-1050 thermoplastic bearings on 420 Stainless Steel sleeves hardened to 425 BHN and coat the entire pump, inside and out with Chesterton ARC SD4I ceramic coatings. the pump looked amazing and ran with no issues.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
Robert: Chesterton has given me the tools and ability to repair pumps in all major fields from oil and gas, power, municipalities, and mining. our success is credited to the ability of the sales team and shop, to adapt to the needs of our customers to provide a truly reliable service.
