Industry Person of the Week-Morgan Via

Our Industry Person of the Week is Morgan Via, a Plant TPR Coordinator at Superior Paving Corp.

Q: How did you get started working in your field?

Morgan: I started out in the finance department doing customer invoicing. Our company was in the process of implementing Total Process Reliability (TPR) for our Asphalt Plants. I was involved in a 5S event and the plant managers took notice of my willingness to get my hands dirty. From there I was asked to be involved in helping to consolidate plant parts and implementing/ building our CMMS system during the seasonal layoff. Eventually the position for Plant Maintenance Planner/ Scheduler was developed and I was asked to take that on. Over the course of another year and a half, I became heavily involved in the improvement teams and KPI development. Eventually a TPR Coordinator role was created for the plant department and I had the privilege to be offered that position.

Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?

Morgan: I love my job because everyday presents a new challenge. I never have the same day. One day I am climbing on Asphalt plants and the next I am facilitating meetings in the office. I am most proud of how much our company has grown in it’s journey with the reliability process. Our people take so much pride in what they do and I feel honored to be a part of an organization with our values.

Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?

Morgan: My advice would be to always take a look behind you. It is incredibly easy in the everyday battles to forget how far things have come. Remember to appreciate the process and all the challenges you have had to overcome.

Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?

Morgan: Our Preventative Maintenance Team is hard at work this year standardizing our lubrication practices at our 10 plant locations. We are in the process of implementing color coding oil and grease guns as well as creating a best practices environment for lubrication storage.
