Our Industry Person of the Week is Maura Abad. Maura is a Global Relationship Leader at Reliabilityweb.com, Reliability Leadership Foundation and Global WIRAM Director.
Q: How did you get started working in your field?
Maura: My background is in Hospitality but In 2013 I started working at Reliabilityweb.com as a Coordinator for Latin America (Public Relations) now I have done many roles at Reliabilityweb.com and I enjoyed each of them. Currently, I am Global Relationship Leader. I also work with two Non for Profit organizations as a volunteer for The Reliability Leadership Foundation and AMP Association of Asset Management Professionals. I continue learning from my mentor Terrence O’Hanlon and from so many people across the world. There is so much to learn. I am PROSCI Certified in Change Management and continually studying human behavior, I am a fan of robotics and the Metaverse. The future is here and I am happy to be alive in this era.
Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?
Maura: I love connecting with people. Travel the world and talking in different languages. I am proud of the Group WIRAM Women in Reliability and Asset Management with more than 950 women in the world and different Directors that represent Diversity in Latin America, USA, Canada, Antarctica, and Middle East. It is a team effort.
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?
Maura: Explore. Connect and Ask questions. I suggest connecting with leaders in the industry. get to know what books they read, what they advise in your career, and get involved in the ecosystem. The industry we are in is filled with people with so much knowledge., and so many experiences to share, network, attend events and ask as much as you can.
Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?
Maura: Part of my role with The Reliability Leadership Foundation is the mapping of the Framework Uptime Elements Framework with The 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. This work will be released this December at The 36th International Maintenance Conference and it was done with a group of leaders in our industry. I mapped the Uptime Elements framework to the Art of War by Sun Tzu and Alice in Wonderland. Every person learns in different ways and I love to be creative and out of the box.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
Maura: I will do my MBA virtually this September and I am extremely excited about this. I continue studying languages as my goal in life is speaking 13 of them. Is about scheduling and having your priorities clear, a reminder to all of us to continuously remember our personal dreams and take action to make them a reality.
On another note, we cannot take anything for granted. We need to remember our blessings and positive things in our lives. Continue to strive for balance as we deserve to have a quality life so we can take care of everything else. Please connect with someone you haven’t done so in so long as being in touch with our friends and family is essential.
