Industry Person of the Week- Lulu Seward

Meet our Industry Person of the Week, Lulu Seward, a Senior Water Quality Technician for Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District.

Q: How did you get started working in your field?

Lulu: My Journey in Water Quality began in 2008. As a proud member of my community, I’ve always wanted to make a positive, hands-on impact. That opportunity came when I started an internship in water treatment, and I quickly discovered a true passion for the work.

Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?

Lulu: What I most love about my job as a Senior Water Quality Technician is knowing that the work I do every day directly impacts and protects public health and the environment. Every test, every sample collected, every report helps ensure clean, safe water and that’s something I’m very proud to stand behind.

Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?

Lulu: There are so many career avenues you can take when it comes to the Water Industry. Do your research, when you can follow an internship into a field in water, do it. One can also volunteer their time and get to know the different positions in this industry until you find something you are passionate about.

Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?

Lulu: Our Water Quality team is constantly working on projects with other departments within our Agency. We collaborate with our Engineering Dept, Water Production, Field Maintenance and Waste Water Operations. As a Laboratory, we play a key role in supporting their work/projects. There are quite a few to list. And Of course Hydrant Hysteria Competition. Haley Garland (my partner) and I are two time National Champions with the best Women time ever recorded.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

Lulu: This Hydrant Hysteria competition has been an incredible success for my team, The Hydrant Belles. We started this journey back in January 2024, we are very proud to represent our Agency in such a fun, positive light. Watch out AWWA 2026 National Competition cause here we come! Of course we could not do this with the support of our Sponsors…OC WinWater, GT imprints and McWane.
