Industry Person of the Week- Jesse May

Our Industry Person of the Week is Jesse May.

Q: How did you get started working in your field?

Jesse: About 2 years ago I moved into the Reliability Maintenance Chief position at Johns Manville, McPherson KS. Not having any formal education or training in reliability I was tasked to assist and lead the reliability team. Easier said than done. Luckily the group was already built with knowledgeable people so it was more of them teaching me what they have been working on and deciding where to expand and develop from there.

Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?

Jesse: Resolving common aches and pains through awareness and creating our best practice/ standard. I am most proud of the hunger to be better and do better throughout implementation of best practice, critical thinking, problem solving and training others the reliable culture.

Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?

Jesse: Keep it simple, stay hungry. Do not get overwhelmed with the whole, focus on one thing or one area and get really good at that then maintain and attack the next thing.

Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?

Jesse: The most recent big project was the construction of a whole new production line. I was being asked to develop a reliability plan for this so we came up with a few staples – equipment alignment tolerances and sign-off, fill up and top offs with like and kind of oil from our in house filtered oil storage along with site glass and breathers, thermal imaging as MCCs were energized, and building an equipment database with pictures and information needed to build lube routes, vibration routes and thermal routes.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

Jesse: Empower your people to use their knowledge and skills to make a difference.

THANK YOU, JESSE! WE LOOK FORWARD TO KEEPING UP WITH YOU THROUGH THE #PUMPTALK COMMUNITY!
