Our Industry Person of the Week is Jade Thompson, Asset Reliability Development Team Manager.
Q: How did you get started working in your field?
Jade: I needed some laboratory experience to qualify for my master’s degree in equine parasitology. I uncovered the world of lubricants working as a lab technician for a lubricant blending plant. I never went back for my master’s!
Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?
Jade: I love the versatility ofJade Thompson my job, one minute you are tucked behind a desk or a microscope the next you’re on a chemical plant or a ship!
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?
Jade: Go for it! If you love engineering or science the condition monitoring industry will have something which will help you turn your 9-5 job into a passion!
Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?
Jade: Last year I set up a lubrication and analysis contract for one of our customers which involved two lubrication engineers full time and a 6 months consultancy program. We moved in and from day 1 took over the day-to-day lubrication of a whopping 2000 assets while carrying out audits and a continuous improvement strategy. We have just come to the end of our first year and have had some fantastic feedback, financial savings for the customer and a reduction in downtime.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
Jade: Moving from the lubricant production industry to the condition monitoring industry 7 years ago has boosted my confidence and knowledge. Understanding the engineering and culture surrounding lubrication has allowed me to successfully assist clients with training and services to push them into a proactive midframe.
