Industry Person of the Week- Hiedi Brooks

Our Industry Person of the Week is Hiedi Brooks. Hiedi is  for

Q: How did you get started working in your field?

Hiedi: I was originally hired for my extensive sales and marketing background. But I believe I quickly flourished due to my strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?

Hiedi: #1 The incredible and hard-working professionals in the pipeline integrity industry Including, working for VCP Sales and it’s founder, John Glass. VCP Sales is newer to the industry (2020)

So I am cross-utilized in ways that keeps my attention while the newer innovative products we launched based on current needs in the industry, allows our team to truly make an impact in the corrosion prevention sector.

My proudest moments so far is a toss up between: when I became knowledgeable and efficient enough to present to large groups on the subject of protective coating wraps.

I’m also very proud of co-hosting the popular broadcast, Global Topics with Jim Kunkle in early 2021 where I assisted Jim in interviewing Corrosion Industry leaders via video on LinkedIn for his corrosion focused series online.

Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?

Hiedi: The corrosion industry is based on building relationships and hard work. The potential in a long lasting career is 2nd to none here; if you’re willing to learn, work hard and are not afraid to ask for help from the industry veterans and experts. And always lend support anywhere you can.

I’ve even helped partners and contractors with their Social media presence, especially LinkedIn to offer further value where needed in business and finding labor.

Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?

Hiedi: Most recently assisted a private engineering firm, in implementing a corrosion prevention coating that could withstand and protect against corrosion in a harsh and wet environment; while still being applied efficiently and safely with minimum surface prep.

We decided on SCC PrimeGuard, which is a corrosion inhibiting priming paste that completely displaces moisture, followed by the chemical and UV resistant SCC Wax Wrap as the next step. For areas that needed added mechanical protection, our FURS moisture-cured composite outerwrap was applied to create a cast like shell over the wax wrap. This is also an ideal application and advantageous coating use for hot taps, flanges, Bridge crossings and pipespan projects.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

Hiedi: I take pride in helping our clients and contractors nationally with their corrosion prevention projects utilizing Viscotaq Coating system, SCC Wax Wrap, PCS 100% Epoxy series and FURS Composites for protection and a local distributor of T&R Holiday Detectors. Our manufacturers are all located here in the US and have many years and family generations in the corrosion prevention and composite protection industry. We have offices in New York, San Antonio with an office and warehouse near me in Indiana.
