There are so many talented and interesting people working across essential industries that Empowering Pumps is making an effort to shine a spotlight on individuals who spend their time and energy making valuable contributions inside and outside of their workplace. Our Industry Person of the Week is Daniel Ferrell, CMRP, Electrical Reliability Specialist at Flint Hills Resources, an American producer of fuels and chemicals.
Q. How did you get started working in your field?
Daniel: I got my foundation with the NJATC, the IBEW/NECA electrical apprenticeship training program. This was the foundation. From there, I have been in electrical maintenance, and now in a role as an Electrical Reliability Specialist.
Q What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?
Daniel: What I love about my job now and with the company I am with is that we have a company vision and a direction, but it is very much up to us (in our teams and as individuals) as to how we create value towards this vision. What I am most proud of, however, is the family that I provide for.
Q. What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?
Daniel: For any line of work and in any field, seek out the experts. There are likely experts in your field that are eager to share what they have learned and will pass along their knowledge freely. Ask a lot questions! Commit early to being a life-long learner.
Q. Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?
Daniel: Recently I’ve been working more in communications networking and network protocols to build out a power monitoring network. It’s a bit of a step away from my comfort zone, but I’ve enjoyed the challenge.
Q. Anything else you would like to add?
Daniel: Be your own motivator. Be a life long learner. Look for balance between your work and home life.
