Meet our Industry Person of the Week, Claudia Gomez-Villeneuve, an Engineering and Project Management Professor.
Q: How did you get started working in your field?
Claudia: Fell in love with project management in university, so I decided to combine it with my original dream of studying engineering. I was attracted to engineering because it explains how the world works.
Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?
Claudia: My proudest career moment came when I was promoted to Supervisor at a pipeline company. I managed 7 project managers in construction.
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?
Claudia: It is easy to pick a career that pays well, but what really makes you successful is to pick a career that makes you happy. Sometimes you can find both, good pay and good work.
Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?
Claudia: My biggest project currently is in the planning phase, for an event called WES 2025. It is the Women in Engineering Summit (WES) taking place fully online on May 23, 2025.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
Claudia: The world needs good engineers and good project managers to help solve problems and make the lives of people easier.
