When it comes to understanding the heart of our industry, nothing compares to stepping onto the plant floor and seeing the people and processes behind the products that keep the world moving. During a recent Industry Access Tour, Empowering Pumps & Equipment CEO Charli K. Matthews visited the Industrial Flow Solutions facility in New Haven, Connecticut. What she found was more than a manufacturing operation—it was a culture of innovation, collaboration, and purpose.
Walking into the facility, we could feel the dedication and collaboration that fuel every part of their operation. The facility brings together multiple operations under one roof, creating a space where engineering, manufacturing, and testing all flow seamlessly. This consolidation isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about creating an environment where people can work together to solve tough problems in real time.
We were guided through different areas of the plant where pumps and control systems were being assembled, tested, and refined. Watching teams collaborate on the floor gave us a deeper appreciation for how critical each role is in delivering reliable solutions for industries around the world. Every workstation told a story of craftsmanship, technical expertise, and a shared mission to move water and wastewater more effectively and sustainably.
One of the highlights of the visit was stepping into the in-house testing area. This is where ideas are put to the test… literally. It’s not just about checking if a pump runs; it’s about ensuring that every system performs reliably in the environments where it matters most. Watching their team run these tests gave us a deeper appreciation for the precision and care that goes into every unit before it leaves the facility. This space truly represents the bridge between innovation and application. It’s where engineering concepts meet real-world challenges, and where their commitment to quality is on full display.
We also got a close-up look at their well-known pump lines, including the rugged BJM Pumps and Stancor brands, as well as technologies like the OverWatch Direct In-Line Pump System and DERAGGER intelligent controls. These systems reflect a forward-thinking approach to simplifying operations, reducing maintenance, and improving efficiency—goals that align closely with what we champion every day at Empowering Pumps & Equipment.
But beyond the technology, what really stood out was the people. From engineers to technicians to leadership, everyone we met spoke with pride about the work they do and the impact it has. This is what drives the industry forward not just the equipment itself, but the dedication behind it.
As Charli often says, “Our industry is full of unsung heroes.” This tour was a reminder of just how true that is. These are the teams who ensure that pumps keep running, systems stay efficient, and communities have the resources they need.
Thank you to Industrial Flow Solutions for opening your doors and allowing us to share your story. Industry access tours like this give us a unique opportunity to highlight the people, processes, and innovations shaping the future of water and wastewater management. And as always, we’re proud to shine a light on the work that keeps the world flowing.
