How OverWatch® Modernized Wastewater Handling at a Courthouse Facility

Problem

A federal courthouse in Phoenix, Arizona, was required by the government to replace its aging pneumatic injector system with a more reliable wastewater solution. The planned replacement, a traditional Yeoman system, was expensive and estimated to cost over $500,000 and take over a year to complete.

The courthouse faced unique challenges: the existing pit was located near air conditioning units, and the entire basement housed critical utilities, including power sources and other essential equipment. Converting the pit into a conventional wet well with submersible pumps would have introduced significant odor problems throughout the building. Additionally, sealing the pit was not feasible, further complicating any traditional installation.

The courthouse required a solution that would eliminate odors, reduce maintenance, and prevent costly and disruptive construction.

Solution

After seeing a demonstration of the OverWatch® Direct In-Line Pump System at WEFTEC, courthouse officials determined it was an ideal fit. Unlike traditional systems, the OverWatch eliminates the wet well by lifting influent directly from the point of entry, containing it to prevent odors, and reducing maintenance requirements.

The courthouse installed an OverWatch system at a significantly lower cost than the alternative. The stainless-steel body ensures durability against corrosion from harsh materials and solutions, making it suitable for commercial and municipal environments.

Since installation, the OverWatch system has been highly effective, providing reliable operation without odors, earning praise from courthouse personnel who operate the system daily. This solution saved time and money while avoiding disruptions to the building’s critical utility operations.
