DERAGGER®: Preventing Pump Ragging and Belt Failures in Arkansas Belt-Drive Systems

PROBLEM:

In the city of Sheridan, Arkansas, a number of belt-drive pumps were used to serve a population of nearly 5,000 residents. Due to frequent clogging and “ragging” of these pumps, the belts were constantly wearing out and required regular replacements — often multiple times a month.

Prior to the introduction of the DERAGGER® system, a set of new belts would only last about three days before needing replacement. This led to a significant increase in workload for the maintenance team, along with higher costs for both labor and the necessary parts.

SOLUTION:

The installation of DERAGGER+™ devices on these pumps, equipped with Real Time Pump Protection™, effectively prevented ragging and ensured the pumps remained clear and operational.

The results were immediate — ragging was completely eliminated, and, most importantly, the team no longer had to deal with the constant replacement of burnt-out belts. This not only streamlined operations but also significantly reduced maintenance efforts.

“We were replacing belts on our pumps two or three times per month. They were burning out from the pumps getting ragged up, and in the months since we put in the DERAGGER®, we haven’t had to replace one belt.”
