The ORIGINAL Screw Centrifugal Impeller Pump

By: Hidrostal

Every great product has an origin story. Hidrostal’s is rooted in innovation, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way.

More than 60 years ago, the screw centrifugal pump was invented and developed by Hidrostal. Designed to handle the toughest pumping challenges with low pulsation, gentle product handling, and unmatched reliability, the Hidrostal screw impeller quickly became a breakthrough in municipal and industrial pumping applications worldwide.

Building the North American Market

In 1981, Hidrostal entered the United States and Canadian markets through a sales partnership with Weir and its predecessor companies. For more than three decades, Hidrostal pumps were sold in North America under the WEMCO-Hidrostal name. While the branding reflected the partnership, the engineering, manufacturing, and innovation remained purely Hidrostal.

From 1981 through the end of 2015, every pump sold as WEMCO-Hidrostal was manufactured entirely by Hidrostal. The design, performance, and reliability customers trusted were the result of Hidrostal’s proven technology and decades of field experience.

A Strategic Turning Point

As Hidrostal continued to grow globally, the company made a pivotal decision. In 2016, Hidrostal established Hidrostal LLC (doing business as Hidrostal North America) in Aurora, Illinois. This move allowed Hidrostal to serve customers more directly, strengthen relationships, and provide clearer alignment between the product and the people behind it.

This transition marked a new chapter, not a new product. Hidrostal continued to manufacture and supply the same original screw centrifugal pumps that had been trusted in North America for over 30 years.

Clearing the Confusion

Following this shift, Weir introduced a new product line branded as WEMCO Screw-Flow. The WEMCO Screw-Flow that was part of the Weir is now part of the Trillium Flow Technologies. These pumps are not designed, manufactured, or supplied by Hidrostal. They are a reverse-engineered alternative and are not necessarily compatible with genuine Hidrostal products.

This distinction matters. While names and branding may sound familiar, only Hidrostal delivers the original screw impeller pump that has been engineered, tested, and proven in the field for more than six decades.

The Original Still Matters

Today, Hidrostal remains committed to its founding principles: innovation, quality, and long-term performance. The company continues to design and manufacture the original screw centrifugal pump, supported by a dedicated North American team and a trusted network of representatives and distributors.

When reliability, longevity, and proven performance matter, specifying HIDROSTAL means choosing the original—not an imitation.

Get the ORIGINAL. Get Hidrostal.
