Yes, a VSG graphite pressure seal is a retrofit for any metal seal. Yes, it’s conformable and compressible and handles thermal cycles time after time. Yes, it can be delivered to your door in no more than 48 hours. BUT, do you know how easy it is to remove from the pressure seal cavity?
Unlike the VSG, a metal seal can be tough to remove. As pressure occurs in a high-pressure valve, it causes metal to gall or weld itself into place. Especially during periods of repeated thermal cycling. And, as the metal fuses with the pressure seal cavity and becomes one with the valve, it can require a chisel, cutting torch or even a come-along for its removal. Replacement with a like metal seal requires valve body machining and a similar risk of future galling.
But the switch to a graphite seal can help you put your valve back in to service much faster. Because it’s compressible, there’s no need to re-machine the valve body as it works in oversize, out-of-round steam cut or pitted surfaces.
Made from high-density Thermafoil® graphite, the VSG won’t fuse to valve components ever! In fact, it can be removed as easily as its installed so you’ll never have to use a chisel again. You just remove the existing seal and replace it with a new one. It works time after time and you can save as much as 75% in labor cost using graphite over metal.
And remember, the VSG replaces any metal seal. It’s engineered for each individual application and can be designed, manufactured and shipped in just 48 hours, even faster using our FastTrack expedite program. With our easy to use graphite pressure seal data sheet, just provide the valve dimensions and we will provide you with a seal that works.
