An Oil Operation was experiencing problems in their process areas within the treater shack and larger oil rig operations. There was a foaming problem occurring when the oil, gas and salt water would come into the treater at a high velocity. It came in so fast that it made foam grow in the treater. The foam went down the gas line creating problems in the system.
DFT® Inc. came to the rescue with their model FBC® Compact Insert Check Valve. An ideal solution, it was used as a restrictor to slow the flow and keep the foaming to a minimum. The FBC was installed on the down-stream side of the Vertical dump valve, located on the salt water leg coming off the vertical treater (pictured above).
The check valve was used to slow the flow and cure the foaming problem occurring when the oil, gas and salt water flowed into the treater at a high velocity. This small footprint check valve fit between the Victaulic pipe couplings, eliminating the heavy weight of the current swing checks used on manual hose applications.
Upon installation it was discovered a second problem was also cured. They eliminated the shock problem which was causing the 3” flanged dump valve lever to bounce due to all the gas and liquid pouring in.
