Contributor: American Water Works Association

Jim Williams of Mishawaka, Ind., began his one-year term as president of the American Water Works Association, the world’s largest association of water professionals, in a gavel passing ceremony at the conclusion of AWWA’s 138th Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE19) in Denver on Wednesday.

ACE19 drew more than 12,000 water professionals to Denver June 9 – 12 to peruse 1,083 booths with the latest industry technology and hear from more than 500 presenters. The event generated approximately $26 million in economic impact to the Mile High City.

Williams, who is the general manager of Suez Advanced Solutions/Peerless-Midwest, has been an active member on the Section and Association levels for more than 30 years.

Williams served as the chair and director of the Indiana Section and has sat on AWWA’s Water Utility Council. He has received several water industry awards throughout his career, including the Kenneth J. Miller Founders’ Award, the Hoosier Water Award and the George Warren Fuller Award. He is also an active member of the Water Buffalos, who participate in motorcycle rides to raise money for non-profit organizations that provide safe drinking water, sanitation services and environmental stewardship to communities in need.

Williams accepted the gavel from Immediate Past President David Rager of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Established in 1881, the American Water Works Association is the largest nonprofit, scientific and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water, the world’s most important resource. With approximately 51,000 members, AWWA provides solutions to improve public health, protect the environment, strengthen the economy and enhance our quality of life.
