AWWA announces launch of Partnership for Clean Water

Innovative new program helps to optimize wastewater utility performance

The American Water Works Association proudly announces the launch of the Partnership for Clean Water, a global optimization and recognition program for wastewater utilities. The program is a voluntary initiative created to help wastewater utilities of all sizes and configurations optimize the operations, performance and efficiency of their treatment facilities. The Partnership for Clean Water will officially launch with a series of events scheduled at AWWA’s Annual Conference & Exposition, held in Chicago June 19-22.

Developed by the American Water Works Association in collaboration with other industry organizations, the Partnership for Clean Water is established as a parallel program to the Partnership for Safe Water, which has successfully helped hundreds of drinking water treatment plants and distribution systems optimize performance for more than 20 years. The Partnership for Clean Water program includes completion of a comprehensive self-assessment of wastewater treatment plant operations and performance, according to a proven optimization process and coupled with industry-wide recognition of utility achievements. Participating utilities focus on optimizing wastewater treatment plant operations to improve effluent water quality and energy efficiency.

“AWWA is proud to add the Partnership for Clean Water to its Total Water Solutions® portfolio,” said AWWA Chief Executive Officer David LaFrance. “The Partnership for Clean Water provides wastewater utilities with resources designed to optimize treatment plant performance and process efficiency, allowing utilities to preserve environmental water quality and protect public health in a sustainable manner.”

The program launches with several Charter Subscribers, representing proactive wastewater utilities of all sizes across North America. Partnership for Clean Water subscribers are provided the opportunity to apply program tools to evaluate wastewater treatment plant operations, treated effluent quality and energy efficiency to identify areas where facility operations may be enhanced. These proactive utilities make a pledge to continually improve and regularly communicate their Partnership for Clean Water progress and achievements to their communities.

Wastewater utilities are invited to join the Partnership for Clean Water by subscribing online.
