Enhanced Installation Flexibility with the AEGIS uKIT

By: Aegis

Effective electric motor protection demands both flexibility and easy installation. The AEGIS® uKIT meets these needs with various mounting options. These Shaft Grounding Ring universal mounting kits (uKITs) are designed according to NEMA and IEC frame sizes, simplifying the part selection process.

The Importance of Shaft Grounding

Motors powered by variable frequency drives (VFDs) generate voltage on the shaft. Without proper shaft grounding, this voltage can destructively arc through the bearings, leading to premature bearing failure, and potentially expensive unplanned downtime. AEGIS Shaft Grounding Rings dissipate this voltage before it can arc through the bearings, protecting them from premature failure.

Why Choose the AEGIS uKIT?

The AEGIS uKIT offers a robust solution for protecting electric motors. Its flexibility and simple selection and installation make it a top choice for most motor designs.

Universal Mounting Options

The AEGIS uKIT stands out for its universal mounting flexibility. With multiple bracket styles, these kits allow for external mounting on nearly any motor design, accommodating shaft shoulders, slingers, seals, and other end bell protrusions.

Simplified Selection

AEGIS uKITs are sized based on motor frame’s shaft size (U for NEMA frames, and d for IEC). So for NEMA frame sizes from 56 to 449T, and IEC frame sizes from 132M to 355M, you don’t even need to measure the shaft.

Custom uKITs are an option for non-standard frame sizes. They offer all of the advantages of kits for virtually any size of low-voltage motor under 500 HP / 375 kW. All you need to do is measure the shaft where the ring will sit and contact AEGIS Customer Service.

Enhanced Installation Flexibility with the AEGIS uKITSimplified Installation

The AEGIS uKIT includes a Shaft Grounding Ring, mounting brackets, and hardware to install it by drilling and tapping the motor end bell. You can also simplify installation by using conductive epoxy to attach the brackets to the motor.

Comprehensive Protection

Like all AEGIS Shaft Grounding Rings, and unlike other forms of shaft grounding, uKITs provide complete 360-degree coverage around the motor shaft. This full coverage reduces the risk of harmful electrical discharge in the bearings.

Enhanced Reliability

All AEGIS rings enhance motor reliability by mitigating electrical bearing damage. With this risk greatly reduced, that makes one less source of premature equipment failure in your plant and less risk of the huge expense of unplanned downtime.

Versatility Across Applications

AEGIS uKITs are versatile and have been successfully implemented in many applications in various industries:

Comprehensive Protection with AEGIS uKIT

If you need to protect standard frame-size electric motors from shaft voltage damage, the AEGIS uKIT is the ideal solution. These high-quality, versatile, and easy-to-install kits offer comprehensive protection and reliability. Whether in commercial buildings, manufacturing, or other industries, the AEGIS uKIT ensures your motors—and the operations that depend on them—run smoothly.
