SUMMARY:Modern Steam Hammer Load Analyses Are Not as Safe as You Think – New\, Improved Methods Can Help
DESCRIPTION:When steam turbines trip the turbine stop valve closes rapidly which generates a steam hammer transient wave. This wave can cause significant transient loads on piping. The de facto method of predicting these loads is the Goodling Method from the 1980s. AFT’s newest software product AFT xStream revealed that the Goodling Method was not always conservative – which means that existing fossil and nuclear power stations are not as safe as believed. Using this information\, an improved analytic method has been developed and will be discussed. \nWednesday\, February 15\, 2023 \n10:00 AM – 11:00 AM (MST) \nPresenter: Trey Walters\, P.E.\, AFT Founder & President\, ASME Fellow \nTrey founded AFT in 1993. He holds a BSME (1985) and MSME (1986)\, both from the University of California\, Santa Barbara. He was the original developer of AFT software and has taught hundreds of training classes on AFT’s software across every populated continent. He worked previously for General Dynamics in cryogenic rocket design and Babcock & Wilcox in steam/water equipment design.

SUMMARY:Modeling and Mitigating Check Valve Slam - Theory and Applications
DESCRIPTION:Check valves are designed to protect equipment from sustained reverse flow\, but a closing check valve introduces a lurking risk of secondary surge. This webinar will outline considerations for check valve selection such as the type of check valve\, the system potential for reverse flow\, and the deceleration of the system’s fluid. \nAFT will take a look at a slam event using AFT Impulse’s built-in deceleration curves to find which valve will work best in their case. Can’t wait for you to check it out! \nWednesday\, March 1\, 2023 \n10:00 AM – 11:00 AM (MST) \nPresenter: Nick Vastine\, Business Applications Engineer II \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Special Considerations for Valve Losses in Compressible Flow: Cv/Kv & xT
DESCRIPTION:When building models in AFT Arrow\, you may notice the Cv/Kv loss models in valves require extra input\, known as xT. This does not show up in valve models for incompressible flow\, which most people are more comfortable with. ANSI/ISA-75.01.01-2012 defines xT and special considerations for compressible flow\, and gives methods for control valve sizing. AFT has equations from that standard native in Arrow’s regular valves and control valves. \nJoin Applied Flow Technology for the webinar to walk away with understanding these various terms and how they apply in Arrow. They will also go through what to do when you may not have the appropriate data. \nPresenter: Walt Prentice\, Business Applications Engineer II \nWednesday\, March 15\, 2023 \n10:00 AM – 11:00 AM (MST) \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Keeping it Simple - Some Truths About Maintenance Processes
DESCRIPTION:In this second webinar\, featuring Reliability and Maintenance Management expert Christer Idhammar\, you’re going to get a glimpse into why “knowing why” is important in managing maintenance and how knocking bolts became the catalyst behind Christer’s philosophy. You’ll also learn some forgotten truths about managing maintenance processes. \nSpeakers \nChrister Idhammar is a world-renowned expert within Reliability and Maintenance. His career began in the Swedish merchant marine where he started developing fundamentals of his Results Oriented Reliability and Maintenance Management concept. During the last 40 years this concept has evolved during his time as mechanic crafts person\, engineer\, manager\, consult\, educator and philosopher\, reliability guru and company leader. As a consultant he started the Idhammar group of companies in 1972 and his own company IDCON INC in the US. His memoir “Knocking Bolts” details his journey’s throughout the world and how those experiences directly tie to Reliability and Maintenance.
