SUMMARY:IDCon Trainings at SMRP
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 17th\, 1:00 PM-5:00 PM \nWorkshop #15: Your PM Needs A Tuneup \n\nIt can be hard to develop a comprehensive approach to Preventive Maintenance (PM). You may have tried different documentation methods. Your management and execution may vary between areas. Different groups and software sometimes manage portions of your existing PM systems. This workshop will walk you through the steps needed to do PM the right way from who to what KPIs you need to measure the success.\nTopic: Equipment Reliability\nAudience Level: Intermediate\nHalf day (four hours)\n\n\nSpeaker \n\nOwe Forsberg \n(Speaker)IDCON INC\, Vice President\n\nTuesday\, October 18th\, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM \nBuilding your PM Tasks Doesn’t Have to be a Time and Resource Killer \n\nDeveloping the right list of Preventive Maintenance tasks for your equipment is often time and resource-consuming. To do it right many plants and mills would need to dedicate a Subject Matter Expert at the corporate level\, full-time\, for over a year to form teams and create all these tasks. They must rely on everyone’s experience and may have a hard time reaching consensus But is there another way that would allow plants to generate a list of PMs\, starting with only a database of assets?\nAudience: CMRP\nAudience Level: Intermediate\n\n\nSpeakers \n\nOwe Forsberg \n(Speaker)IDCON INC\, Vice President\nJohn Todd (Speaker)TRM\, Sr. Business Consultant\n\nWednesday\, October 19th\, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM \n\nThe Real Reasons Your Reliability Improvements May Fail – It’s All About Support\n\nThe two most common reasons that companies fail to sustain R&M practices and achieve improved business results are the following: 1. Lack of a strong and fully engaged Leadership Team that understands and takes responsibility for the business objectives\, basic process workflows\, and the organizational roles in support of the process. 2. Leadership and supervision’s lack of understanding and ability to manage people – with both sincere recognition and performance management\, when appropriate. It is said “Leadership is about taking responsibility\, not making excuses”\, so the question is “How do you engage plant leadership in your improvements?”\nAudience: CMRP\nAudience Level: Beginner\n\n\nSpeaker \n\nChrister Idhammar\n(Speaker)IDCON INC\, Founder\n\nThursday\, October 20th\, 8:00 AM-12:00 PM \nWorkshop #25: Why Root Cause Analysis Just Isn’t Enough To Really Solve Your Problems \n\nYou may have been through Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) training at some point in your career. If not\, you probably are aware of the basic concept and that there are many Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) classes and books available. But the inherent problem of RCFA is that its scope is narrow – analysis of the problem without really getting to a practical and implementable solution.\nTopic: Equipment Reliability\nAudience Level: Intermediate\nHalf day (four hours)\n\n\nSpeaker \n\nTorbjorn Idhammar (Speaker)IDCON Inc\, President

SUMMARY:Critical steam turbine blade redesign\, increases reliability and production
DESCRIPTION:The acquisition of any highly engineered plant comes with the challenges of adopting and adapting to assets with unknown history or reliability track record. Turning to an Independent Service Provider (ISP) with best-in-class technology and engineering solutions is the best approach – both to time and costs saving. For Sulzer’s client\, their new Delaval Topping turbine set back the ammonia site with critical rotor blade failure. Although having a spare unit\, the plant production rate was compromised. Their client looked to Sulzer for its expertise in failure analysis. Sulzer engineered and implemented a solution to modify the blade design\, which mitigated future failure and restored plant production rate.

Wednesday and Thursday are full classroom days\, with a dinner in Venice on Thursday. Friday is a half-day of practical training.\nWe are collaborating with our partner Euromacchine to hold and host the school. Euromacchine has graciously offered to help us run the event and has opened its facility for practical training. \nThe program has a reasonable registration fee of $100 USD (~100 €). The event venue\, The Double Tree Venice North in Mogliano\, Italy\, is offering a special room rate to attendees of €127\,00 for a double room\, double occupancy and €115\,00 for a double room\, single occupancy (contact the hotel directly for the rate). \nLink to register and school flier can be accessed at: https://www.cornellpump.com/events_archive/2022-european-pump-school/

SUMMARY:How to Easily Create Your Own Libraries (formerly called databases)
DESCRIPTION:A great feature in AFT software is the ability for customization. There are many standard options AFT provides for you to use such as pipe materials\, fluid properties\, components & fittings\, pipe insulation\, etc. But when you have your own data\, it is very easy to create your own custom library with that information. Learn how the AFT software library structure works to add your own custom information and how to quickly share it with others. \n10:00 AM-11:00 AM (MST)

SUMMARY:Modern Steam Hammer Load Analyses Are Not as Safe as You Think – New\, Improved Methods Can Help
DESCRIPTION:When steam turbines trip the turbine stop valve closes rapidly which generates a steam hammer transient wave. This wave can cause significant transient loads on piping. The de facto method of predicting these loads is the Goodling Method from the 1980s. AFT’s newest software product AFT xStream revealed that the Goodling Method was not always conservative – which means that existing fossil and nuclear power stations are not as safe as believed. Using this information\, an improved analytic method has been developed and will be discussed. \nWednesday\, February 15\, 2023 \n10:00 AM – 11:00 AM (MST) \nPresenter: Trey Walters\, P.E.\, AFT Founder & President\, ASME Fellow \nTrey founded AFT in 1993. He holds a BSME (1985) and MSME (1986)\, both from the University of California\, Santa Barbara. He was the original developer of AFT software and has taught hundreds of training classes on AFT’s software across every populated continent. He worked previously for General Dynamics in cryogenic rocket design and Babcock & Wilcox in steam/water equipment design.

SUMMARY:Modeling and Mitigating Check Valve Slam - Theory and Applications
DESCRIPTION:Check valves are designed to protect equipment from sustained reverse flow\, but a closing check valve introduces a lurking risk of secondary surge. This webinar will outline considerations for check valve selection such as the type of check valve\, the system potential for reverse flow\, and the deceleration of the system’s fluid. \nAFT will take a look at a slam event using AFT Impulse’s built-in deceleration curves to find which valve will work best in their case. SUMMARY:Special Considerations for Valve Losses in Compressible Flow: Cv/Kv & xT
DESCRIPTION:When building models in AFT Arrow\, you may notice the Cv/Kv loss models in valves require extra input\, known as xT. This does not show up in valve models for incompressible flow\, which most people are more comfortable with. ANSI/ISA-75.01.01-2012 defines xT and special considerations for compressible flow\, and gives methods for control valve sizing. AFT has equations from that standard native in Arrow’s regular valves and control valves. \nJoin Applied Flow Technology for the webinar to walk away with understanding these various terms and how they apply in Arrow. They will also go through what to do when you may not have the appropriate data. \nPresenter: Walt Prentice\, Business Applications Engineer II \nWednesday\, March 15\, 2023 \n10:00 AM – 11:00 AM (MST) \nRegister Here
