SUMMARY:Water hammer Analysis is 80% Easier When You Import a Model from AFT Fathom. Here’s How You Do It.
DESCRIPTION:Description: Most engineers who use modeling software are pros at using the software to evaluate the steady state flow. But do you also take the time to evaluate sudden surge pressures in your system? This webinar will show you how easy it is to use the AFT Fathom model you built and turn it into an AFT Impulse model so you can determine any surge issues in the system. \nPresenter: Ben KeiserAFT FathomAFT Fathomhttp://bit.ly/2SSPZoE

SUMMARY:Groundwater and Oil and Gas Development: Improved Management Practices for Groundwater Protection and Water Supply (workshop #5035)
DESCRIPTION:Overview: \nThe boom in unconventional oil and gas development presents many challenges to groundwater resources\, including water availability and groundwater quality. \nTo provide forums to address these issues\, NGWA sponsored workshops in Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania\, in 2014 and in Columbus\, Ohio\, in 2017 to bring together scientists and practitioners from the groundwater and oil and gas industries\, government\, and universities. The goal of these workshops was to identify data gaps and science needs\, and to provide recommendations for reducing uncertainties related to groundwater risk. \nThis third workshop will focus on water availability and improved water management practices for groundwater protection. \nKeynote speaker \n“Wellbore Barriers — More than Just a Good Cement Job” will be presented by keynote speaker Glen Benge\, an independent consultant specializing in wellbore isolation and well cementing. \nRetired from ExxonMobil where he spent more than 24 years working as a technical adviser in drilling\, Benge has 40 years of experience associated with all aspects of well cementing and isolation\, and has authored numerous papers and texts on all aspects of cementing design and application. He served as the testifying expert for the U.S. Department of Justice for evaluation of cementing on the Deepwater Horizon case. He’s past chairman of API Subcommittee 10 on Oil Well Cementing and remains an active member and work group chair. \nBenge has authored technical papers on zonal isolation and wellbore isolation for containment of gas migration\, fluid isolation\, and pressure containment for long-term wellbore integrity. He is a technical editor for SPE Drilling & Completionjournal\, and has served as session chairman for the National AADE Conference and on the steering committee for the SPE Forum on Advanced Drilling Techniques. Benge serves on industry advisory groups for the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Energy Technology Laboratory. He’s past president of the New Orleans Chapter of the American Association of Drilling Engineers and is a senior member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers\, a technical editor since 2003\, and received the SPE recognition for “A Peer Apart” in 2013. \nProgram advisers\n\nBill Alley\, Ph.D.\nGlen Benge\nAnthony Gorody\, Ph.D.\, PG\nRichard Jackson\, Ph.D.\, PE\nKyle Murray\, Ph.D.\nJean-Philippe Nicot\, Ph.D.\nJoe Scott\nDan Soeder

SUMMARY:Pump and Mechanical Seal Reliability
DESCRIPTION:This course provides the participant a better understanding of the reliability issues related to the interrelated functions of the centrifugal pump and mechanical seal\, as they are operated in a complex pumping system under a variety of conditions. Participants learn how to identify and address causes of poor pump and mechanical seal reliability by focusing on mechanical and operational issues that can negatively affect pump and seal performance. \nBasic pump and mechanical seal issues are discussed in the classroom\, and then reinforced in the laboratories using actual pumps equipped with instruments to indicate flow\, pressure\, temperature\, and power consumption. The pumps are operated by the students themselves. 60% classroom\, 40% labs. \nSpecific topics include: \n\nReview of centrifugal pump basics\nPump operating conditions that affect both pump and seal reliably\nMechanical issues that affect pump and seal reliability\nTroubleshooting centrifugal pump failures\nThe effects of the various types of cavitation in a mechanically sealed pump.\nThe importance of proper clearances in a centrifugal pump.\nReview of mechanical seal basics\nMechanical seal installation\, commissioning and operation\nDetailed steps to mechanical seal troubleshooting\nSeal failure case studies\n\n\nAUDIENCE \nThis course builds upon level 1 pump and mechanical seal courses. Experienced operations and maintenance personnel and engineers with at least 1 or more years of field experience are preferred.

SUMMARY:National Water Policy Fly-In
DESCRIPTION:April 3 – 4\, 2019 \n \nHyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill \nWashington\, DC\n \nThe National Water Policy Fly-In serves as the anchor event for Water Week.  Presented jointly by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA)\, the Water Environment Federation (WEF)\, the Water Research Foundation (WRF)\, and the WateReuse Association\, it is the most widely attended national policy event for water professionals to advocate on behalf of clean water utilities. \nAs has been made clear by recent comments from President Trump and congressional leaders in the new Congress\, there is strong interest in Washington to advance a bipartisan infrastructure package during 2019.  This would build off the momentum of major advocacy wins in 2018\, such as the bipartisan passage of the America’s Water Infrastructure Act. \nBut in order to ensure that any package includes water as a top priority\, it is critical that policy-makers hear directly from you about the specific challenges facing your utility and community.  Join hundreds of other clean water leaders and stakeholders as they call on the Administration and the new Congress to work in partnership with the clean sector\, invest in the nation’s clean water infrastructure\, and advance policies that benefit clean water utilities and the communities they serve.
