SUMMARY:Between Bearing Pump Repair (Formerly MSPR)
DESCRIPTION:An Intermediate Level class for maintenance staff. \nThis course instructs participants on the proper procedures for the preparation\, rigging\, disassembly\, inspection and failure analysis of between bearing centrifugal pumps. The pumps addressed include both horizontally and radially split pumps; i.e BB1 through BB5 style equipment. \nDuring the course the participants will: \n\nDiscuss field and shop inspection of the pump and system components\nPractice disassembly and inspection procedures and best practices\nDocument and analyze information gathered during disassembly and inspection\nIdentify and discuss elimination of failure modes\nReview industry standards for component NDE and repair techniques\nPractice bearing and seal removal and installation\nDiscuss industry standards and criteria for component balancing\nReassemble pumps with an emphasis on measuring and recoding critical dimensions and runouts\n\n\nAUDIENCE \nThis course is for mechanics\, millwrights and others who are responsible for maintaining between bearing pumps.

SUMMARY:Mechanical Seal Fundamentals
DESCRIPTION:This course provides the student with foundational information regarding the purpose of mechanical seals\, how they are constructed\, where they are used\, and what they need to effectively perform in a wide variety of applications. Mechanical seal issues are discussed in the classroom and then reinforced in the laboratories using actual pumps equipped with instruments to indicate seal chamber pressure and temperature as the pumps are operated at various flow rates by the students themselves. 70% Classroom\, 30% labs. \nSpecific topics include: \n\nPump and mechanical seal basics.\nSeal function (how they work).\nMechanical seal piping plans.\nProper seal installation and removal.\nMechanical seal types and arrangements.\nReading mechanical seal drawings.\nMaterials of construction.\nFluid properties effect on seals.\n\n\nAUDIENCE \nEngineers; rotating equipment specialists; individuals involved in pump sales and service\, and experienced plant maintenance and operational personnel that have a desire to improve their understanding of the many mechanical seal applications in rotating equipment.
