SUMMARY:Gulf South Rotating Machinery Symposium
DESCRIPTION:2019 Invitation from our President\, Dennis Schaibly \nWelcome to the  NEW  Gulf South Rotating Machinery Symposium! \nConferences like ours have seen declines in attendance in recent times and we are wondering why. With the large numbers of the “old lions” retiring and a whole new generation of eager\, young people taking over the machinery operation and maintenance\, there should be a huge thirst for training and networking for knowledge of Rotating Equipment. \nWe want to step to the forefront of providing the industry with a source for that training right here in Baton Rouge. What began as a group of industry experts working with LSU Continuing Education (now LSU Digital & Continuing Education) in 1983 as GSCC (Gulf South Compression Conference)\, our vision continues today as GSRMS still partnered with LSU-DCE to bring a strong program of training to our industrial base. Now we are taking steps to be even more responsive to your training requirments. Here is what is coming in April to the symposium: \n\n Tutorials (2 hrs.) and Short Courses (4 hrs.) –  industry knowledge based programming and demonstrations\n Ethics Program – meet your PE training requirement for 2019\n Continuing Education Credits from LSU DCE for these programs\n A JOB FAIR – opening day opportunity to meet industry recruiters\n Trade Show – industry experts explain their projects\, innovations and services and what’s new to the industry\n Networking with your peers\, learn from others that have made the mistake before. The Fail Forward Approach.\n\nReturning to GSRMS this year…. The Crawfish Boil!  Have a little fun while learning. \nTo our business partners\, we hope you will join us and work with use to make this symposium strongly relevant to the end users\, your customers\, by promoting your participation. Your exhibit registration includes one “free pass” to reward your favorite client to a full attendance. Together we can make the Gulf South Rotating Machinery Symposium the type of event that you expect it to be.

SUMMARY:Mechanical Seal Fundamentals
DESCRIPTION:This course provides the student with foundational information regarding the purpose of mechanical seals\, how they are constructed\, where they are used\, and what they need to effectively perform in a wide variety of applications. \nMechanical seal issues are discussed in the classroom and then reinforced in the laboratories using actual pumps equipped with instruments to indicate seal chamber pressure and temperature as the pumps are operated at various flow rates by the students themselves. 70% Classroom\, 30% labs. \nSpecific topics include: \n\nPump and mechanical seal basics.\nSeal function (how they work).\nMechanical seal piping plans.\nProper seal installation and removal.\nMechanical seal types and arrangements.\nReading mechanical seal drawings.\nMaterials of construction.\nFluid properties effect on seals.\n\n\nAUDIENCE \nEngineers; rotating equipment specialists; individuals involved in pump sales and service\, and experienced plant maintenance and operational personnel that have a desire to improve their understanding of the many mechanical seal applications in rotating equipment.
