Quattroflow QF-150 Series Biotech Pumps Featured on Bio-Rad Chromatography Systems at BPI Expo

Quattroflow, a leading brand of positive displacement quaternary diaphragm pumps from Almatec® Maschinenbau GmbH, recently took part in the BioProcess International (BPI) Conference & Exhibition, which was held from Oct 8-11 at the Rhode Island Convention Center, Providence, RI. At the show, Quattroflow teamed up with Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., Hercules, CA, a leader in offering innovative process chromatography equipment and technologies to the life-science research, clinical diagnostics and biopharmaceutical purification markets.

On display at BioProcess International was Bio-Rad’s process chromatography skid 00. This is the industry’s first compact skid designed for small-scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing, optimizing valuable clean room space and processing time. Process engineers can select either pre-programmed or manual methods for all functions of the process skid, using the wireless tablet PC. In combination with the chromatography station it simplifies column preparation from slurry transfer, packing, unpacking and cleaning for all functions of the process chromatography column and process skid 00. This enables customers to completely automate these processes with reproducible and traceable results. To learn more visit

A key component in the Bio-Rad process chromatography systems on display was a Quattroflow QF-150 Series Biotech Pump. QF-150 pumps are ideal for this application because they offer unique capabilities to the system and contribute toward an ideal solution for the chromatography purification process. Important fluid-transfer needs are met through the QF-150’s controlled low-pulsation flow for stable process control, low-shear operation for delicate product and media handling, and high turn-up/down capability for scaleability.

“Having the opportunity to partner with a respected industry innovator like Bio-Rad at an important show like BPI allowed us to showcase the standard-setting capabilities that Quattroflow QF-150 pumps can deliver to biopharmaceutical purification operations,” commented Wallace Wittkoff, Hygienic Market Director-Americas for PSG. “These are critical, sensitive operations and show attendees were allowed the chance to see just how effective the QF-150 can be when operating within a chromatography system.”

QF-150 pumps feature flow rates from 1-150 L/hr (0.26-40 gph) at maximum discharge pressures of 6 bar (87 psi) and temperatures ranging from 80ºC to 130ºC (176ºF to 266ºF). The pumps are available in single-use configurations, while the multiple-use versions are clean-in-place/sanitize-in-place capable and completely autoclavable. The diameter of the pump’s chamber is 70 mm (2.75”) with a stainless-steel housing and EPDM valves and diaphragms. QF-150 pumps have 3.1B, CFR FDA and USP Class VI certifications.
